Marketing platform provider Mailchimp has acquired Sawa, an automated graphic design platform, the company announced on Friday. Terms were not disclosed.
Sawa’s founder Francis Tao will join Mailchimp as senior product manager. He will be responsible for integrating Sawa’s technology into the Mailchimp platform.
Both firms are located in the Atlanta area. Mailchimp specializes in serving small businesses.
Sawa, founded in 2017, is the first company to successfully exit the Techstars Atlanta Accelerator funding program, according to Mailchimp.
Tao says joining Mailchimp will allow Sawa to accomplish its goal of helping firms create instant on-brand designs and in a broader way “across landing pages, social ads…email, all the avenues Mailchimp supports,” according to a report in Atlanta Inno.
Michael Cohn, former managing director, Techstars Atlanta Accelerator, says he was impressed with Sawa’s ability to “create on-brand campaign graphics with just a few clicks.”
Tao is Sawa’s only employee, according to Atlanta Inno.
