NHL Opens Voting For Fan Choice Awards

The National Hockey League is expanding the number of categories from 10 to 20 as it opens the voting for the 2019 NHL Fan Choice Awards.

The event, which is handled in-house at the NHL, gives fans the opportunity to engage with and vote on the best photos, videos and GIFs shared by teams and players during the 2018-19 NHL season on social media.

In 2018, the league received more than 500,000 votes from June 4 to 15. It was the first year of the program, which came together at the last minute with little promotion. This year, the NHL has doubled the length of voting time for fans to May 15 to June 15 and expanded promotion. More than one million fan votes are expected this year, according to a spokesperson.

More than 65 NHL players, all 31 NHL teams, and the newest expansion NHL Seattle franchise, are featured in videos and graphics across the 20 categories.
