Sanders Email Warned Supporters About ICE Raids: Report

Bernie Sanders supporters in 10 cities received an email warning of planned ICE raids the day before they were supposed to begin, according to Vox.

The subject line said: “ICE raids targeting 10 cities start Sunday. Know your rights.”

The email did not ask for contributions, and was unusual in that its purpose appeared to be mobilization, Vox reports.

The email was sent on Saturday morning. Later that day, President Trump delayed the roundup for two weeks, saying the raids would commence if Congress failed to pass what he deems acceptable reform.

“I want to give the Democrats every last chance to quickly negotiate simple changes to Asylum and Loopholes,” Trump tweeted on Sunday, according to Vanity Fair.

He continued: “This will fix the Southern Border, together with the help that Mexico is now giving us. Probably won’t happen, but worth a try. Two weeks and big Deportation begins!”

The Sanders email, which officially was sent by his press secretary Belén Sisa, a DACA immigrant, includes a list of immigrant rights in both English and Spanish.

The email begins:

“Multiple news outlets are reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is planning deportation raids against immigrant families in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, and San Francisco starting early Sunday morning.”

It adds: “Whether or not you are an immigrant, please share this ‘Know Your Rights’ information widely to help those who might fall victim to the cruel and inhumane policies of the Trump administration.”

In May, the Sanders campaign reportedly sent emails and texts encouraging recipients to join California university workers in a one-day strike.
