The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ad Council are expanding the government's Ready Campaign that prepares people for unexpected emergencies and disasters by addressing children, in addition to their usual roundup of tips and guidance.
The "Prepared, Not Scared" campaign is designed to educate adults, particularly parents, on ways to best prepare children for a possible crisis by driving them to the dedicated website Ready.gov/kids.
Newfangled Studios created TV, digital and out-of-home ads featuring animated families alongside a narrator discussing specific issues, like tornadoes and floods.
“Imagine you are at work or at home and your child is at school or on a play date when a disaster strikes. Do they know what to do if you are not around?” asked Pete Gaynor, acting FEMA administrator. “It is important to have these conversations now and prepare ahead of time to be ready for the unexpected.”
Additionally, FEMA is teaming up with Sony Pictures on the studio's upcoming film "Zombieland: Double Tap," though the component is still in the early stages without much detail, adds an Ad Council representative.
Each week during September's National Preparedness Month, FEMA will emphasize a specific aspect of readiness, including the kid-specific week of Sept. 15-21. Other periods will focus on the importance of financial security, pre-planning and getting involved with local community efforts.
