Delta Air Lines, Georgia Tech Team On Autonomous Vehicle Research

Delta Air Lines is looking into self-driving vehicles.

The airline is partnering with Georgia Tech and Curiosity Lab to research autonomous vehicles.

Curiosity Lab has a 5G-enabled autonomous vehicles laboratory in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, which researchers from Delta and Georgia tech will gain access to.

Delta sees the potential use of autonomous cars, trucks or buses at airports.

The idea is that self-driving vehicles potentially could help customers make tight connections across an airport, deliver delayed baggage or transport aircraft parts to airports, according to the announcement.

“Autonomous vehicle technology is one of those innovations we see as having the potential to improve employee safety, the customer experience and operational performance, and this partnership will help us explore all of those possibilities,” Gil West, Delta’s Chief Operating Officer stated in the partnership announcement.

No word on whether any other airlines are exploring self-driving vehicles.
