Accomplice Acquires 2 Shops To Flesh Out Design Services

Brand experience design firm Accomplice is expanding its menu of services with the acquisition of two design agencies in Austin, Texas, where it is also based.

Founded in 2016, Accomplice specializes in digital product, technology integration and physical fabrication for a client roster that includes 3M, Accenture, AT&T and Hotel Tonight.

Now, the shop is bolstering its capabilities in large-scale immersive experiences through the acquisition of Design & Manufacturing, an experiential design agency with a roster including Bose, Mercedes, Casper and Marriott.

Separately, the company is purchasing emerging tech design firm Spatial Cinematics to integrate its AR/VR products into Accomplice's experiences.

The acquisitions position Accomplice "far ahead in this market shift, from digital to physical," asserts Ben McCraw, Chief Design Officer-cofounder, Accomplice.

Accomplice first partnered with Design & Manufacturing two and a half years ago on projects that achieved "impact through brand touchpoints that truly stopped people in their tracks," says McCraw. "We’ve discovered that our calling is to demonstrate distinctive and memorable ways to bring our clients’ visions to life, carrying the heart of a brand’s story through the finish line, undiluted and undeterred."

Similarly, the firm's journey with Spatial Cinematics began a year ago to extend capabilities "far beyond" the screen to unlock a new level of imagination and engagement, he says. "This has allowed us to go further than expected with each new project."

Both of the acquired firms will merge under the Accomplice name, employing some 50 employees across the country with the design studio and home base remaining in Austin.
