Developers Look To 5G For More Video, Audio

Video and audio are about to get a boost from the coming speeds of 5G.

In addition to building for faster network speeds, a new study finds developers are planning to tap 5G to use more video and audio.

More than half (51%) of developers in North America plan to tap 5G to use more video and 43% plan to integrate more audio capabilities, according to the semiannual study comprising a survey of 1,400 developers worldwide conducted by Evans Data Corp.

Other areas expected to be impacted by the availability of 5G networks in North America are plans to use more complex user interactions (36%), latency no longer being a factor (30%) and developers integrating more types of devices (29%).

The technologies expected to most benefit from 5G are the Internet of Things (33%) and big data gathering and processing (18%).

The majority (56%) of North American developers expect that 5G will be dominant within the next year, with 28% of those expecting it will be dominant within the next six months.

No matter the timeframe, 5G is clearly on the way.
