New Season: CBS' 'Late Show' Still On Top, Colbert And Fallon Tied Among 18-49 Viewers

With the news of a three-year extension for Stephen Colbert, his CBS “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” continues this season where it left off a year ago -- easily leading all broadcast TV late-night shows in total viewers.

Through three weeks, “Late Show” (11:35 p.m.) is averaging 3.3 million Nielsen viewers -- outpacing competitors “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” (1.89 million) and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (1.84 million).

Last year, from September 2018 to September 2019, "Late Show" came in at 3.6 million viewers, followed by "Tonight" at 2.29 million and “Kimmel" with 1.97 million.

The battle between “Late Show” and “Tonight” is much the same as it was a year ago, with both tied among 18-49 viewers at a Nielsen 0.39 rating/3 share, while “Kimmel” is at a 0.33/3. A year ago, for the full season, "Late Show" came in at a 0.49/4, followed by "Tonight" with 0.48/3 and "Kimmel" at 0.38/3.

There was good news for CBS later in the evening, at 12:35 a.m. Early three-week results show “Late Late Show with James Corden” has a slight advantage in total viewers (1.22 million) over NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers," which has 1.19 million. ABC’s “Nightline” is at 1.14 million so far.

But “Late Night” is still tops among 18-49 viewers with a 0.23 rating/3 share, followed by “Nightline” with 0.22/2 and “Late Late Show” at 0.19/2.  NBC’s “A Little Late with Lilly Singh" at 1:35 a.m. comes in at a 0.15/2 among 18-49 viewers -- with 670,000 overall total viewers.
