Walmart, Apple Partner For Voice Shopping

Walmart is giving voice a boost.

The mega-retailer is teaming with Apple to extend its Walmart Voice Order to become available on Siri.

Voice Order, announced earlier this year, gives Walmart customers the option to add items to their online grocery cart by saying the words.

The new Siri Shortcut for Online Grocery will allow customers to link their accounts so they can ask Siri to start adding items directly to their Walmart grocery cart, according to a blog post by Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital operations for Walmart U.S.

“It feels a little like magic on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod or in the car with CarPlay,” states Ward.

Shoppers say, “add to Walmart” and name the product they want to add to their cart.

Customers then can place their order and Walmart personal shoppers will gather the items for the customer, who can pick them up on the way home or have them delivered to their home.

A neat twist is the recall built into the system.

Using purchase history, a customer can say “add orange juice to my cart” and the system will know to add the brand of orange juice that the customer regularly buys, without the shopper having to mention the brand.

Walmart is helping introduce voice technology to the masses.
