Email security firm Mimecast Limited has acquired Segasec, a firm that provides digital threat protection, Mimecast announced on Monday. Terms were not disclosed.
The deal will allow
Mimecast users to “take a proactive approach to identifying — and even potentially preventing — attacks that imitate their brands using domains they don’t own,” says
Peter Bauer, chief executive officer at Mimecast.
Bauer adds that the combined tools will also provide “the visibility required to understand how their brands are being misused for
malicious intent.”
The addition of Segasec will enhance Mimecast’s Zone 3 protection, which defends firms against threats that take place outside the organizational perimeter, the
firm claims.
Zone 1 protects against firms trying to penetrate the perimeter, and Zone 2 protects against those within the perimeter.
The combined tools will block phishing scams
that use domains similar to a firm’s legitimate branding, the company says. It also let users block suspicious sites.
Bauer argues that “every brand is vulnerable to attacks that
abuse and threaten the trust that employees, customers, partners and third-party vendors have placed in them.”
In November, Mimecast acquired DMARC Analyzer, provider of an email
validation software tool.
