Cofense, Anti-Phishing Firm, Lands Additional Funding

Email security company Cofense has been awarded additional capital by investor BlackRock Private Equity Partners, and has added technology finance specialist Tom McDonough to its board of directors.

The company did not specify the amount of the new investment, but The Wall Street Journal says it is at least $10 million. The funding will support research and development and the firm’s global expansion, Cofense says.

Cofense offers such anti-phishing tools as Cofense Triage and Cofense Vision. Recently, it launched a COVID-19 phishing resource center.

McDonough has served as a board member or operating executive for such companies as Cisco and Sourcefire, and has helped tech firms pursue international expansion, venture financing, IPOs, acquisitions and integration, Cofense says.

Cofense announced last year that Pamplona Capital Management was selling its minority stake in the company following a probe by U.S. national security regulators into alleged foreign ownership of U.S. tech companies, according to Reuters.
