Audi, Infiniti Offer Stay-At-Home Fun With Paper

Audi and Infiniti have gotten creative in providing consumers with ways to stay connected to their brands while they stay home during the pandemic.

Instead of Cinco de Mayo, Audi celebrates “Quattro de Mayo” in honor of its quattro all-wheel-drive technolgy, publishing three paper cutouts of vehicles that include this technology.

The first is of a 1980s Sport quattro S1 rally car, showing where quattro began. It was a car so dominant that it transformed rally racing. Later, quattro was called “the unfair advantage” when introduced in touring car racing. Also available are the Audi R8, a mid-engine supercar, and the Audi e-tron shows, which shows where the brand is taking quattro technology, with two electric motors powering all four wheels.

Consumers are asked to tweet @AudiNews with a picture of their works of art and the #AudiTogether hashtag.

Meanwhile, inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding, Infiniti presents “Carigami” as part of its “Park It For Now” campaign.

The campaign combines two elements of Infiniti's brand DNA, the company claims: powerfully elegant design  and Japanese-inspired craftsmanship,

The aim is to create origami-like designs that can be produced at home.

With a printer, some paper, a craft knife and glue, users can download the templates and assemble their own version of the vehicles.  A series of three different Infiniti models can be produced in 1:27 scale, replicating the design of the Q50, QX80, and the FX crossover.

The project is part of the brand's effort to encourage people to stay at home by providing a free creative outlet for them, says Phil York, general manager of Infiniti global brand and marketing.

"We wanted to develop something that will help ease the boredom, while having a bit of fun," York says in a release. "Our hope is that lovers of cars and crafts alike, will enjoy Carigami.”

The brand created a video showing the construction and “reveal” of one of the cars.

Model templates are available at www.infiniti.com/headlines/carigami. Users are encouraged to upload images of their efforts to social media with the hashtags #ParkitforNow #Carigami.
