Walmart Shoppers Can Now Buy Groceries From Their Yahoo Mail Inboxes

Verizon Media has teamed up with Walmart to enable home-bound consumers to fill a shopping cart with essential groceries from Walmart within Yahoo Mail.

The new service, Groceries from Walmart, lets Yahoo Mail users “browse and buy essential groceries without having to leave their inbox, saving them time and helping them organize their lives through enhanced and innovative experiences within their email,” states  Guru Gowrappan, CEO of Verizon Media.

Groceries from Walmart is now available on the Yahoo Mail iOS app and desktop, and Android will be added later this year, the company says.

Users will receive personalized grocery grocery recommendations based on their Yahoo profiles, Verizon says. In addition, the shopping cart never expires, it continues.

The new service “takes one more step out of our customers’ days, helping them shop when, how and where they want,” states Rich Lehrfeld, senior vice president, Walmart Marketing.

The service will be available to 900 million Verizon users.

Verizon cites a May survey by Inmar Intelligence showing that 80% of consumers shop online for groceries, versus 40% prior to the pandemic, and most of those who had done so before have increased their online grocery shopping.

“Because of the unprecedented coronavirus challenge, online grocery shopping is now the new normal,” Gowrappan adds.
