Roku, NBCU Settle Carriage Deal Issues, Peacock Added

Roku and NBCUniversal have reached an agreement for continued carriage of 46 NBCU apps, as well as a new carriage deal for Peacock, NBC’s streaming service that launched in July.

This comes just hours after news that negotiation talks between Roku and NBCU were stalled with the looming deadline of this weekend.

Terms were not disclosed.

Roku, the streaming platform for TV and video apps, and NBCU were in a stalemate over deal points concerning the share of advertising inventory that Roku sells, as well as NBC programming content that Roku wanted to run on its own channel, according to executives speaking with Television News Daily.

In addition, Roku, which has 43 million monthly active users, wanted to secure NBC viewer data to be included in Roku’s advertising tech platform.

In a statement, NBC says: “Roku’s incredible reach will not only help us ensure Peacock is available to our fans wherever they consume video but continue to expand NBCUniversal’s unrivaled digital presence across platforms.”

With regard to the deal, a Roku spokesperson said: “We look forward to offering these new options to consumers under an expanded, mutually beneficial relationship between our companies that includes adding NBC content to The Roku Channel and a meaningful partnership around advertising.”
