Gmail Hit In Tuesday Internet Outage

Gmail was among the services affected by a massive internet outage on Tuesday.

Reports about Gmail spiked at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday morning on downdetector. Of those, 50% concerned login; 31%, the ability to receive messages; and 17%, difficulty with websites.

The outages also affected Verizon, Amazon, Zoom and Slack. Complaints about Verizon to downdetector peaked around 12 p.m.

Reports blamed the outages on a cut fiber in Brooklyn, New York. The failure mostly hit the Northeastern U.S.

Although the problems appeared to have been resolved, downdetector was still receiving reports about Gmail on Wednesday afternoon.

"2 hours ago Email content not loading,” wrote one.

“Just lost all inbox messages in PA,” wrote another.
