Gumby's Back, And This Time He's An NFT

Fox Entertainment has acquired beloved animated claymation character "Gumby" from the estate of his creator Joseph Clokey and has omnichannel plans for the character, including -- you guessed it -- NFTs.

Fox's deal, which includes Pokey and all the other Gumby-related characters, includes the studio's library of owned content and intellectual properities, which will be distributed across linear, nonlinear, blockchain-based and "other platforms," according to Fox.

The deal includes the complete library of the classic "Gumby" animated series, specials and movies, which will be streamed by Fox's Tubi service.

Fox also said Gumby's intellectual property will be part of the startup company, Blockchain Creative Labs, as well as Fox Alternative Entertainment, and a newly formed Fox Entertainment Studios.

“Picking a new home was important to me, and I’ve found great partners in FOX Entertainment,” the fictional character said in a canned statement included in Fox's press release, adding, “They have a vision for my modern, multi-platform reemergence, which is thrilling.  Throughout our conversations, Pokey and I reiterated that we are talent they can mold.  Literally.”
