You Bought The T-Shirt, Now See The 'Stranger Things' Play

Netflix is breaking new ground in streaming service franchise extensions with a live play based on its phenomenally popular “Stranger Things” series. 

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” written by “Stranger Things” writer and Co-Executive Producer Kate Trefry, will debut at the Phoenix Theater in London’s West End later this year, with tickets on sale this spring. It is being directed by Stephen Daldry, a Tony and Olivier award winner. 

The series’ creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, described the play as a “journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things.” 

The play is part of a deal that the brothers struck with Netflix to develop new projects. Others in the works include a “Stranger Things” spinoff series and another original series.

“Stranger Things,” which debuted in 2016, is Netflix’s most-watched English-language series, having pulled 1.35 billion viewing hours for its fourth season, which bowed last year.

The series is set to end after Season 5.
