Blockbuster movies boast big promotional efforts.
Warner Bros.' "Blue Beetle," premiering August 18, has a novel one.
The film is the first Latin-led superhero film and marks the debut of the DC character on the big screen. Directed by
Ángel Manuel Soto, "Blue Beetle" stars Xolo Maridueña in the title role, as well as his alter ego, Jaime Reyes. Chosen by the Scarab, an ancient relic of alien biotech, as its symbiotic
host, Reyes receives a suit of armor that possesses incredible powers.
To underscore "Beetle's" cultural importance, Warner Bros has partnered with language app Memrise in a cross-brand promotion.
Memrise is offering two courses that dovetail with the
movie. The first teaches Spanish to English speakers, the second, English to Spanish speakers. Both feature clips and conversations taken from the film to help learn Spanish and even guess the
plot.
