Seattle-based craft soda brand Jones Soda Co. is entering the pet category with a new product for the canine consumer. That’s right, now soda is for dogs, too.

The brand is introducing a new line of Jones Craft Dog Soda, featuring “unconventional flavors” (to humans, at least) which “dogs love” (if you’ve ever known a dog, you know that’s actually most flavors, but OK).

Don’t worry, the brand isn’t trying to pass off a bad batch of the beverage onto unsuspecting pups. Despite the “soda” label, they are non-carbonated, and don’t include any sodium or sweeteners.

Jones claims it worked in collaboration with veterinarians and dog owners to craft the canine concoction, which combines “all-natural human grade ingredients,” and “choice functional supplements” designed to support the maintenance of optimal joint health, including glucosamine and chondroitin.

Designed to work as a hydration-boosting treat, or tasty food-topper, the product received an initial launch on Chewy ahead of Thanksgiving, in a range of flavors including Chicken, Beef, and Turkey and Gravy. Jones is daring adventurous humans to give their dog’s new treat a try themselves, as well, appropriate enough given the inspiration for the foray into the dog-focused offering.

"Looking at the millions of photos our fans have submitted to us over the years, it's easy to see how much Jones fans love their pets!  Knowing how much our pets mean to us, a lightbulb went off when we brought back Turkey and Gravy, our fan-favorite seasonal flavor," Eric Chastain, president and COO of the Jones Soda Co. Beverage Division, said in a statement.

Like its range of sodas for human consumption, the bottle labels feature user-submitted pet photos. For future releases, the brand will also include photos of adoptable dogs in search of a new home.

Jones is also extending its “Caps For Gear” loyalty program to the Jones Craft Dog Soda line, encouraging fans of the brand to collect bottle caps to redeem for prizes including Jones-branded dog bowls, leashes, and dog toys.

While the initial launch was limited to Chewy, Jones Craft Dog Soda will expand to additional retailers in 2024. That the brand refers to the three flavors currently available as the “initial” line of flavors also seems to hint at future releases -- and we would love to see the consumer focus group who gets to taste-test it.
