Email Switchoff: Cox Turns Email Service Over To Yahoo Mail

Internet and mobile provider Cox is stepping away from email.

“To ensure the best email experience possible for our customers, we have decided to transition email service and support of your cox.net email to Yahoo Mail,” it has informed customers in a post.

Current users will keep their email addresses, including @cox.net, along with messages, folders, calendar, and contacts. But all of their email content will be transferred to Yahoo.

"Once the transition is complete for each cox.net email address, you will be directed to Yahoo to accept Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, or you will receive an email providing instructions about accepting Yahoo’s Terms of Service and completing this transition,” Cox stated.

It continued: “If you choose not to transition and do not accept Yahoo’s Terms of Service, and would like to retain your content, you will need to move your data to another service provider or download the desired material prior to your transition date.”

Yahoo Mail is offering the following features:

  • Up to 1,000 GB of free storage
  • Optional 2-Step Verification
  • Option to add an Account Recovery Email and Phone Number
  • Accessibility features, including high-contrast themes, dynamic text resizing and VoiceOver screen reader compatibility.

Yahoo is offering additional features for a fee.

Why did Cox choose Yahoo Mail over Gmail or Outlook? Because “we believe they are a trusted provider that will continue to offer the advanced support and enhanced protection for your email account that you've had at Cox,”  the company states.
