Coca-Cola Launches Wozzaah Zero Sugar Flavor, Inspired By African Culture

Coca-Cola has unveiled its latest Coca-Cola Creations release with the launch of Wozzaah Zero Sugar ahead of Africa Day -- the annual holiday celebrating the anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity on  May 25, 1963. The name of the product takes inspiration from the word for “come here” in isiZulu, one of the official languages of South Africa.

Wozzaah Zero Sugar combines the familiar flavor of Coca-Cola with “vibrant, tropical flavors inspired by Africa, while the can design “boasts contemporary typography and bursts of vivid color that captures the dynamic rhythm of African culture,” according to the company.

Wozzaah Zero Sugar will be available in select markets, including in Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa. Later in the summer, the product will be available for sale in the U.S. for a limited time, a brand spokesperson told Marketing Daily.

The brand partnered with star Eswanti musician Uncle Waffles, who boasts around 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, as its celebrity ambassador for the new flavor. Uncle Waffles kicked off a series of event activations when she took the stage for a May 23 Coca-Cola Creations pop-up concert.

Coca-Cola’s Creations Hub, hosted by Uncle Waffles, features a series of channels with audiovisual elements the brand described as “inspired by distinct spaces within South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, and Nigeria.” Fans can also engage with social elements created for the campaign, including customizable Snapchat lenses.

Coca-Cola also partnered with Nigeria’s first skateboarding company WafflesnCream -- commonly known as “waf” -- on a line of exclusive merchandise that will be available for sale in select markets.
