Ramada By Wyndham Seeks A 'Chief Eats Officer'

Ramada By Wyndham is on the hunt for a CEO. No, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Chief Executive Geoff Ballotti, who has held the role since 2018, isn’t leaving the company. Rather, a new campaign and promotional contest makes playful reference to the acronym as Ramada by Wyndham promises to crown a “Chief Eats Officer.”

As the title suggests, the brand is seeking someone serious about culinary travel. The winner will be tasked with snapping photos and generating content while enjoying a global trip spanning different Ramada locations in up to seven countries (the chain has locations across some 75) -- and earn a $15,000 payment in the process.

After being crowned “CEO,” the winner will embark on a trip exploring different local cuisines lasting up to three weeks. But they will have a job to do.

“As our CEO travels to some of the world's most remarkable cities, they’ll immerse themselves in the local culture, engage with the community and share their journey with travel enthusiasts across the globe,” Ramada by Wyndham brand leader Stephanie Kendrick said in a statement. The aim is to create content in service of Ramada’s brand mission of “transforming every trip into an unforgettable experience."

The material generated by the new “CEO” will then be featured on Ramada by Wyndham’s website and social media channels.  Among the perks of the job, the brand will award the winner a “CEO Comp Package” comprising a $10,000 stipend to cover travel expenses, along with $5,000 in cash, and paid accommodations at Ramada locations for up to 21 nights, as well an upgrade to Wyndham’s Diamond rewards status.

Among the potential locations available for the trip are the Ramada by Wyndham Seoul Sindorim in South Korea,  Ramada by Wyndham Budapest City Center in Hungary, Ramada by Wyndham Downtown Dubai in UAE, Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Panama Punta Pacifica in Panama,

To promote the contest, Ramada by Wynhdam put out a call for submissions on social channels including Instagram, where the brand teased the role with the question, “Are you craving a job that lets you travel, eat, and share your adventures?”

Applicants can post  a one-to-three-minute video on TikTok by Oct. 22 explaining why they’re the ideal candidate to be “Chief Eats Officer,” tagging @RamadabyWyndham using the hashtag “#RamadaCEO” and following the brand – as well as keeping the video publicly visible during the duration of the contest. Alternatively, applicants can send their video submission to the contest’s dedicated email address: makemeceo@ramada.com.

Given this is essentially an influencer role, it’s also not surprising the brand says applicants should be “active and proficient” across a variety of social media platforms, while noting a preference for Instagram and TikTok in particular.

The effort follows another campaign centered around an attention-grabbing promotional stunt for a different brand owned by the company. On August 8, Wyndham subsidiary Super 8 kicked off a promotional offering making 888 room nights available for the initial price of $8.88 in celebration of the chain’s 50th anniversary (the price was how much a room cost when Super 8 first launched in 1974).
