TikTok 'Donation' Helps Creators Raise Money For Causes

In connection to Giving Tuesday, TikTok has launched an updated “Donation” feature designed to make it easier for people to raise donations for organizations directly in the app.

TikTok has partnered with Goodstack, a leader in global donations infrastructure, to invite creators to choose organizations they are passionate about from Goodstack's validated database of nonprofit partners, and then add a custom fundraiser name, goal amount, and cover photo, as well as a designated space to share their personal stories with their followers.

The ByteDance-owned company says that these features are intended to help creators “inspire action and form a deeper connection” with their specified cause and their in-app community.

In addition, creators can share cause-specific stickers in their videos, posts, and Lives that can be used to more seamlessly collect donations and expand reach and visibility.

In its announcement, TikTok highlighted several creators currently utilizing the new features, including Deidre Kelly (@the_mrskelly) who is promoting Black Girls Code, which aims to inspire young Black girls to pursue careers in technology and computer science; as well as JT Laybourne (@jt_laybourne), who is raising money for the American Heart Association after undergoing open-heart surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TikTok's new donation tools align with the platform's recent “Change Makers” creator program, which highlighted fifty creators across the globe who create content that aims to make a positive impact.
