Omnicom, IPG Receive Early Approval To Proceed With Merger*

Omnicom and IPG are proceeding with their merger ahead of schedule, the companies said today. The original plan was for completion in the second half of the year.

The early go-ahead was given by the Trump Administration's Department of Government Efficiency, run by electric car and rocket czar Elon Musk.

The Federal Trade Commission’s investigation of the antitrust implications of the merger was abruptly halted, a joint decision made by Trump and Musk.

Trump issued a statement: “The FTC didn’t have much bite to begin with and once Elon gets through with it there won’t be much left of the agency any way.”

Coinciding with the merger, Musk’s social media network X will receive a $3 billion ad spend commitment from the merged entity.

“Look,” said Trump. “Elon is a great guy, Everybody knows he’s a great guy and so are all of the people at X. They deserve that $3 billion.”

Trump said he didn’t know much about Omnicom and IPG or the executives that run the companies. “But Elon has told me they are great guys. And if Elon says it then it’s true. They’re great guys. No fake news there. They deserve this merger, America deserves this merger and AI deserves this merger. So does Elon. They’re great guys.”

*Happy April Fools’ Day.
