'Minecraft' Becomes Year's Highest-Grossing Theatrical To Date

Now just 10 days into its theatrical release, Warner Bros. mega-blockbuster “A Minecraft Movie” is now the highest-grossing global theatrical film of the year -- at $550 million ($281 million in domestic revenue), according to IMDb Box Office Mojo.

Just a week ago -- when it blew the doors of pre-opening estimates $162 million domestically -- the video-game adaptation has now topped Walt Disney/Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World -- $410 million globally ($199 million domestically).

“Minecraft” posted another big $80 million in its second weekend. The first weekend for Angel Studios’ “The King of Kings” was next ($19.1 million) followed by 20th Century Studios’ “The Amateur” ($15 million).

To date, Warner Bros.’s national TV advertising for “Minecraft” -- paid media and on-air promo media value --- came in at $16.9 million, resulting in 2.2 billion impressions, according to estimates from EDO Ad EnGage. Of the 4,520 airings, 4,036 came from 14 Warner Bros.-owned TV networks.

The minutes following the airing of a Minecraft TV advertising spot yielded a 7,020 increase in the online engagement activity.

Season-to-date -- January 1 to April 14 -- total domestic yearly box-office revenue is flat at $1.8 billion compared to the same period a year ago and down 16% versus 2023, according to Box Office Mojo.
