How Many Cocktail-Shaking Humans Can A Liquor Brand Gather In One Place?

Gold Bar Whiskey, attempting to break the record for “Most People Shaking Cocktails Simultaneously” (yes, this is a real record) is asking for help from cocktail enthusiasts.  The brand has essentially turned the effort into a community pop-up event, inviting all consumers (whether they are experienced cocktail shakers or not) to San Francisco’s Treasure Island on May 17 at the Golden Bar Whisky Distillery. The day will be hosted by San Francisco Giants broadcaster and two-time World Series champion Hunter Pence.

Surprisingly, the brand has some pretty large shoes -- or should we say, shakers -- to fill. The current record for Most People Shaking Cocktails Simultaneously is a whopping 1,710 set by Diageo in Barcelona, Spain, on Sept. 18, 2013, per the Guinness World Records’ site. The record was actually set during Diageo’s Western Europe annual conference, where participants shook vodka martinis comprised of vodka and vermouth with lemon zest. No other company has attempted to break the record since.

"While making cocktail history, we want people to experience our unique space on Treasure Island," said Elliott Gillespie, president of Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery in the announcement. "Our cocktail classes in our tasting room sparked this world record breaking idea, (and) San Francisco is globally recognized as a top city for mixology.”

The brand is supplying attendees with all the tools needed for a thorough cocktail shake: a limited edition commemorative metal cocktail shaker and a quick cocktail class taught by Pence, along with all the ingredients needed. The event also includes live music and DJ sets and a vendor village with brand activations in collaboration with pop-up event company West Coast Makers and retro Bluetooth boombox maker Bumpboxx.

Tickets to the event for attendees over 21 are available for $29. The brand is promoting the event on its Instagram account.
