GS&P Names Chen Chief Strategy Officer

Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P) has named Christine Chen as Chief Strategy Officer.

Chen has been with the agency since 2004. Previously, she was head of communications strategy.

At the beginning of her GS&P career, she handled Häagen-Dazs “Loves Honey Bees.” Her focus on innovative uses of media has delivered for Adobe, Doritos, Xfinity and “Got milk?”

“At GS&P, strategy isn’t a department — it’s a creative force,” said Margaret Johnson, Chief Creative Officer, GS&P. “Christine is one of those rare thinkers who doesn’t just answer the brief; she reframes it. She pushes brands and teams to go further to make work that actually moves people.”

Chen will oversee teams in San Francisco and New York, uniting the agency’s three strategy disciplines: brand, communication and consumer insight.

“Our secret sauce — true since the founding of the agency over 40 years ago — is knowing how to create strategies that solve real problems and activate ideas and culture,” said Chen. “At GS&P, strategy has always been about making people feel something and compelling them to act. Solving problems for not just the brand, but addressing how the brand can solve problems for people.

Leslie Barrett, president of GS&P, credits her with helping to win the BMW and General Mills accounts.

The agency recently added General Mills, Zaxbys, Brown-Forman and Empower to its roster.
