Destination tourism efforts typically focus on the sights visitors can expect to experience, but what about its sounds?
Puerto Rico’s destination marketing organization, Discover Puerto Rico, partnered with mindfulness app Calm for a first-ever collaboration designed to immerse listeners in soothing sounds and inspiring stories from the island. There are two guided meditations, two soundscapes, a “Breathe Bubble,” and a “Sleep Story”— narrated in both English and Spanish — reflecting Puerto Rico’s natural landscape as well as its culture. Discover Puerto Rico partnered with sound engineers on the island, as well as Calm’s content production team, to develop the programming.
The “Sleep Story” in question is also narrated by one of the more famous voices associated with the island. Composer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Encanto,” “Hamilton”) combines music, storytelling, and personal anecdotes, taking listeners through some Puerto Rico’s biggest attractions—including the colorful streets of Old San Juan, the glowing waters of La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay, and the shores of Flamenco Beach.

“Puerto Rico is where my roots are, where my family is, and where I go to feel grounded,” Miranda said in a statement. “Recording this Sleep Story allowed me to share the magic of the Island in a new way: through its sounds, its stories, and the quiet beauty that fills every corner."
The full suite of audio experiences is available to Calm Premium members on the app. Discover Puerto Rico’s partnership with Calm also includes a promotional giveaway offering a chance to win a one-year Calm Premium membership to the first 1,700 visitors to apply via its website. After the memberships have all been claimed, visitors can still receive a 50% discount on the membership through May 21, 2026.
“Through these immersive audio experiences with Calm, visitors can feel the Island’s magic before they arrive, inspiring them to prioritize their mental health and their next great adventure,” Discover Puerto Rico Public Relations Director Davelyn Tardi said in a statement.
