America’s Test Kitchen is closing its
bi-monthly magazine, Cook’s Country, and has laid off some staffers.
“On Tuesday, ATK announced the layoff of seven employees, including 4 union
members,” the Communication Workers of America posted on Instagram. “The announcement caught our unit by surprise, and we are saddened by the loss of these talented colleagues. They
represent decades worth of culinary & editorial experience, creativity, and institutional knowledge.”
But the layoffs represent only 3% of the staff, The Boston
Globe reports. And the company is apparently adhering to its mission.
“Cook’s Country inspires home cooks with regional recipes, and the history and stories behind
them,” says Dan Suratt, chief executive of America’s Test Kitchen. “Millions enjoy the brand on TV, streaming and digital platforms, and we continue to invest in Cook’s Country
such that it will thrive for years to come as the media landscape evolves.”

"The Cook's Country print magazine will cease publication after the Oct/Nov issue,” the
company announced on its website. “However, the Cook’s Country brand lives on via new Cook’s Country recipes that will be published via the Cook’s Country TV show,
streaming channel, cookbooks, website and the America’s Test Kitchen app.”
Despite that, America’s Test Kitchen will continue publishing Cooks
Illustrated magazine.
