It's A Lovely Day For A Guinness/Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Collab

Guinness relies on its tagline from 1950s ads for inspiration in its collaboration with craft ice cream maker Van Leeuwen.

“Lovely Day for a Guinness” is the latest flavor from Van Leeuwen, consisting of “ultra-creamy ice cream with the unforgettable flavor of Guinness mixed with rich chocolate chunks,” according to the announcement.

The limited-edition flavor is available in a custom carton, which features art similar to Guinness’s summer limited-edition Guinness Draught Stout 4-pack. The design depicts the brand’s old school toucan mascot -- now “with a modern American twist” as an illustrated cartoon bird delivering Guinness with his beak.

"We're always looking for ways to bring the bold flavor of Guinness to life in new formats, offering a modern twist," said Karissa Downer, director, Guinness, in the announcement. "This collaboration … captures the simple summer joys that sit at the heart of our ‘A Lovely Day’ campaign, like sharing a scoop of ice cream and a pint of Guinness.”

The "Lovely Day for a Guinness" flavor is available in 14-ounce pints at Van Leeuwen Scoop Shops nationwide for $11.15 while supplies last. It is also available online at vanleeuwenicecream.com with shipping nationwide for $12.

Van Leeuwen is promoting the collaboration with Scoop Shop and sampling events, now being featured on its Instagram page. The sampling events, scheduled for locations in Chicago, Brooklyn, Nashville and Dallas, will include free samples of the Lovely Day for a Guinness flavor,  as well as “tiny pours” of Guinness Draught.

Guinness Pintmobiles, which the brand says are a “fleet of custom-branded retro vans topped with iconic Guinness surfboards,” will also tour the country with “treats, tiny pints, and photo-worthy moments,” in such cities as Miami, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Columbus, and San Diego.

A Guinness Surf Shop pop-up will open in Hermosa Beach, California on Aug. 9 featuring  the ice cream, tiny pints, tiny tacos and Guinness summer merchandise.
