818 Tequila Teams Up With Country Star's Traveller Whiskey

818 Tequila has brought back its “Shake up the Classics” yearly promotion, but this time as a collaboration with a country music star’s own whiskey brand.

Launched last week in time for National Tequila day on July 24, Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila teamed up with Chris Stapleton’s Traveller Whiskey to “reimagine” classic whiskey cocktails with tequila.

The Calabasas Cowboy Cocktail is the result, a twist on the classic whiskey-based Gold Rush drink that blends 818 Tequila Reposado with Traveller Whiskey, lemon juice and simple syrup.

Both 818 founder Jenner and Stapleton appear in a social media video campaign promoting the drink and a limited edition cocktail kit. The video, seen here, has Jenner and Stapleton discussing and sampling each other’s brands behind a bar and mixing up the new Calabasas Cowboy together.

The campaign, “leverages country music influence to tap into new audiences … beyond traditional tequila drinkers,” per 818’s release. The video runs on the brands’ Instagram, with additional video on 818’s channels as well as YouTube.

The Calabasas Cowboy Cocktail Kit is available exclusively at VistaWineSpirits.com for $69.99 while supplies last, and includes both 818 Reposado Tequila and Traveller Whiskey, Viski glassware, a recipe card and exclusive merchandise.

The Calabasas Cowboy cocktail itself is available to order now at Desert 5 Spot, a country-themed bar and nightclub with locations in Los Angeles and Brooklyn.

Previous “Shake Up the Classics” efforts from 818 included such cocktails as a tequila-based Cosmopolitan and a Tequila Mule, which were promoted at popular bars and nightclubs across the country.

Launched last year, Stapleton’s Traveller Whiskey, which was co-created by Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley, was recently named the official whiskey of Major League Baseball.
