Dentsu announced on Thursday that it would appeal a
Tokyo High Court decision upholding a $2 million+ fine related to a bid-rigging verdict in connection with the 2020 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.
The Court’s
decision was handed down earlier in the day, as reported by the Japan Times.

Dentsu acknowledged that there “was a violation of laws and regulations in connection to the planning and related
operations for the test events,” related to the Games, “and has implemented measures to prevent recurrence based upon serious reflection while striving to nurture an organizational culture
that prioritizes integrity.”
Dentsu said it disputed the part of the court's ruling that found Dentsu’s transgressions extended beyond the test events to include
“the management and operation of the main event, which greatly differs from the Company's stance.”
It will argue that position during an upcoming trial at Japan’s
Supreme Court.
The Japan Times article also noted the High Court’s upholding of a suspended two-year prison sentence for Koji Henmi, 57, former assistant
head of the sports department of Dentsu. The publication also noted that others were implicated in the scandal as well including ad agency Hakuhodo which has also appealed to higher courts.
