Cointreau Campaign Replaces Eggnog With Margaritas For Holiday Toasts

Cointreau is asking consumers to eschew the traditional eggnog this holiday season, with its latest humorous campaign embracing the traditional margarita instead.

A continuation of the brand’s MargaRight effort launched earlier this year, the new work again features actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza, known for her role on the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”  In the spot, created by David NY, Plaza urges consumers to “ditch the ‘nog for something zesty and bright.”

“Some people hate eggnog, but they haven’t tried mine,”  says Plaza as she holds a margarita, standing by a cactus decorated like a Christmas tree. She goes on to list the ingredients of her “eggnog;” lime juice, Cointreau and tequila, and for “those who say it’s a margarita—they can keep drinking eggs.”

Inspiration for the campaign came from a study conducted by Cointreau which found that “more than 90% of consumers would drink a margarita at holiday parties, significantly more than other popular cocktails, including eggnog.”

The Make Your Eggnog A Margarita spot with Plaza runs across digital and paid media as well as on Cointreau’s social media platforms on Instagram @Cointreau_US and Facebook @cointreauUS.

“The margarita isn’t just a staple for summer, it is also the perfect choice for holiday toasts and winter celebrations,” says Nicolas Beckers, president and CEO at Rémy Cointreau Americas, in a release. “We want to remind consumers that a margarita is a timeless, convenient crowd-pleaser to serve guests this holiday season and all year long.”

Cointreau has also created a “Make Your Eggnog A Margarita” limited edition holiday kit, which contains ingredients to make the brand’s Original Margarita (Cointreau and lime juice), along with an autographed decanter of “Any Tequila” signed by Plaza and seasonal recipes. The kit is available exclusively  while supplies last through ReserveBar.com.
