Angry Orchard Channels Holiday Frustration With 'World's Angriest' Cider

Angry Orchard’s latest limited-edition release arrives in time for those whose holiday celebrations learn more toward infuriating than festive.

The brand’s new “World’s Angriest” is described as an “ultra-spicy, small batch” cider “infused with real anger from real people.”

The people’s anger was tapped by the brand through an online promotion that solicited consumers to call a national hotline (1-84-I-AM-ANGRY) where they were then encouraged to “vent, rant, sigh—and in some cases, scream into the phone for several minutes.” The resulting angry audio recordings were then broadcast by a 12-foot wall of speakers to the tanks within the Angry Orchard Cider House in New York’s Hudson Valley.

“Embracing life's minor irritations with a sense of humor—and a cold cider—is what Angry Orchard is all about,” says Matt Withington, senior director of marketing at Angry Orchard, in a press release, “The World's Angriest cider gave our drinkers a place to channel their anger and infuse that energy into something bold, spicy and totally over the top.”

In addition to the consumer-generated angry audio, the World’s Angriest cider also gets a spicy kick from spending more than six months steeping over Aji Amarillo and Habanero peppers.

“We’ve been experimenting with spice for the past year, and this release gave us the perfect opportunity to bring an ultra-spicy batch to life. We brought the heat, our fans brought the anger,” says Joe Gaynor, head cidermaker at Angry Orchard. “The liquid spent six months steeping with … hot peppers, then was rounded out with locally sourced honey to create a super spicy yet enjoyable flavor profile.”

The World’s Angriest is now available in 750ml bottles for $25 at worldsangriestcider.com while supplies last. The brand is promoting the limited edition on its social platform @AngryOrchard.
