Like Mother Like Son: Judge Judy Passes Gavel To Son Adam

Judy’s law is becoming “Adam’s Law” as TV super judge Judy Sheindlin gets set to pass her well-worn gavel to her son, Adam Levy.

Levy, 57, is about to start his own TV courtroom show for first-run syndication, according to a press release last week from CBS Media Ventures, the syndication and content-licensing arm of Paramount that will distribute the show.

The Paramount syndication unit -- whose properties include “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy!,” “Inside Edition” and “Entertainment Tonight” -- has long been the distributor of “Judge Judy,” which ranks as one of the most successful shows in TV history.

Judge Judy, 83, ceased producing new episodes of “Judge Judy” in 2021 after 25 years, but repeats continue to air and still perform strongly in the syndication ratings.

She still holds court on TV in “Judy Justice” on Amazon Prime Video and she is producing “Adam’s Law.”

Levy, a son from Sheindlin’s first marriage, was a two-time district attorney in Putnam County in upstate New York.

More recently, he has been one of three judges on the TV court show “Tribunal Justice,” produced by Judy Sheindlin and now seen also on Amazon Prime.

She is also producing "Justice on Trial," described as a "true-crime courtroom drama series," also seen on Amazon Prime.

She is also working on an animated series that will begin streaming sometime next year, according to a knowledgeable source.

Meanwhile, CBS Media Ventures has picked up the syndication rights for past episodes of "America’s Funniest Home Videos" and will be introducing a new first-run, video-compilation show for weekend syndication called “American Mayhem.”

The announcement of three new shows for syndication by CBS is an indication -- albeit, a relatively small one -- that the world of broadcast syndication is still alive, despite all of the uncertainty about legacy media such as broadcast television.

"CBS Media Ventures remains committed to delivering titles that excite stations and connect with audiences everywhere. With 'Adam’s Law,' 'America’s Funniest Home Videos' and 'American Mayhem,' we’re expanding our portfolio with three distinct programs that each bring something fresh to the marketplace," said John Budkins, executive vice president of programming and syndication production for CBS Media Ventures and Stations.

"From a bold new take on the courtroom, to one of television’s most beloved family franchises and an adrenaline-charged weekend destination, these series are built to engage, entertain and deliver for our partners," he said.
