I had a feeling that the powder blue
Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck I am test driving might draw some attention -- and I was right.
I was leaving my volunteer gig at the local animal shelter when I was
approached by two enthusiastic women in the parking lot. “We parked next to your truck just so we could check it out better,” one of the 20-somethings said.
The
color — which General Motors calls Snowdrift Metallic — is definitely a showstopper.
I also got some attention at stoplights, but maybe that was because of my ability to
make a quick getaway. The 2.7L Turbo Max engine paired with a 8-speed automatic transmission takes no prisoners. It offers 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque.
However, the gas
mileage suffers as a result. It’s EPA rated at 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for a combined 19 mpg. However, mine registered at 15.7 mpg for the 128 miles of city and highway miles I have put
on it thus far.

It’s in the mid-size pickup category and definitely feels bigger than the compact Ford Maverick pickup I drove recently. For one thing, the step-in feels
significantly higher but is not high enough to warrant running boards.
I’m not a fan of the combined turn signal and window wiper stem on the left of the steering wheel.
I get what Chevy is trying to do, clean up the steering wheel. But it doesn’t feel intuitive.
The base price is $46,495 including destination charges. With the added options, the
vehicle I test drove totaled $49,135. While the Colorado is not a bad pickup, I'd personally choose the smaller and more affordable Ford Maverick Lobo, which has a base price of $35,255 and
gets better mileage -- 24 mpg city/highway combined.
Chevrolet recently released an online
spot that is also being used by dealers for local advertising. It brings back the Dinah Shore classic from 1951, “See the USA in Your Chevrolet,” with a modern interpretation from
country artist Brooke Lee.
The spot is part of a broader campaign that will unfold to honor America’s semi-quincentennial. Announced late last year, the Stars &
Steel Collection special edition leverages modernized design elements inspired by the American flag and will go into production this spring.
The package is available
on five models across the 2026 Chevy lineup: Corvette, Silverado EV, Silverado LD, Silverado HD, and Colorado. For every Stars & Steel vehicle sold, Chevrolet will donate $250 to nonprofits
that support the veteran community.
