Sorry, Not Sorry: I Cannes Not Attend This Year

Lighthouse Creative will host the CANN’T Block Party in DUMBO, Brooklyn— a celebration of the creatives, marketers, founders, and agency folks spending Cannes Lions week in New York instead of on the Cote d’Azur.

The event embraces the reality that only a small percentage of the industry attends the festival each year. (About 12,000 from 90 or so countries, versus a core global ad-marketing workforce of 6.5 million, per the American Marketing Association).

CANN’T will take place on June 17 (4:00–10:00 p.m.) at The Dumbo Loft & Dumbo Plaza. It will feature a reimagining of Cannes staples, including an inflatable yacht bounce house, sidewalk sand pits, “ocean” experiences, rosé, and plenty of cold beer.

Of course, what would CANN’T be without awards? And there will be plenty awarded for quite dubious achievements such as: Worst Thought Leadership, Lowest ROI, Worst Use of AI, and more.

The top winner will receive a Grand Prix--an actual Pontiac Grand Prix. Fun fact: Pontiac stopped making the Grand Prix after model year 2008.

“Every June, it can feel like the entire industry relocates to Cannes,” said Sam Slaughter, Founder of Lighthouse Creative. “CANN’T is for the people actually creating the work. We wanted to build something that captures the fun, absurdity, and creative spirit of our industry, without the yacht budgets, conference badges, or airfare.”
