Chevrolet, Nike and the NBA’s Devin Booker are
launching a four-sneaker collaboration inspired by Booker's collection of vintage Chevrolet Impalas.
“Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker has always found
ways to turn personal passion into cultural moments,” according to Kicks on SI.
“Now the NBA All-Star is doing it again, this time built around the cars he collects off the court.”
The first sneaker, “Pretty Penny,” will first be
available through an early release in Detroit during the Woodward Dream Cruise, as an ode to vintage cars and classic car culture.
“Similar to last year’s Blazer-themed
Book 1 range, the latest quartet of Chevrolet x Nike Book 2 styles reference Booker's vintage Chevrolet Impalas,” according to Complex. “Each colorway also features the car’s year on the shoe,
graphics on the heel counter, and special packaging.”

Sign-ups for a chance to buy the first drop, “Pretty Penny,” will go live for fans in Detroit via SNKRS Pass
on Aug. 14 for pickup on Aug. 15, during the Woodward Dream Cruise. A wider release will arrive on Aug. 26 via SNKRS. The remaining three shoes in the collection will become available in December.
“Pretty Penny” takes its color scheme from Booker’s 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible, the vehicle that started Booker’s classic car obsession. Each design in the
Book 2 collection mirrors one of Booker’s Impalas, matching the paint color and integrating subtle details like tongue tops that match each vehicle’s hood ornament.
Each sneaker design features the model year of the car that inspired it (’58, ’59, ’62, ’63).
“Even the box the shoes come in is
bespoke,” according to Carscoops. “The custom boxes borrow their look from Chevrolet’s mid-century
accessories packaging, complete with retro graphics, while a Heartbeat of America T-shirt riffs on Chevy’s famous advertising campaign from the 1980s and ’90s.”
Chevrolet
revived "Heartbeat of America" in June as part of the brand’s year-long broader America 250 initiative, according to Marketing Daily.
