Since leaving Sprint Nextel last spring, John Styers and Pierre Barbeau have been running their new consulting business, Moblico (a "mobile life company"), mostly under the radar. But with the
recent launch of their Web site, the startup is now officially open for business. Styers, who led mobile advertising efforts at Sprint, and Barbeau, who helped develop Sprint's picture mail service,
are offering their expertise to brands and agencies venturing into mobile marketing.
"There's a tremendous demand for support, not only how to use mobile in the marketing mix but about
strategy and execution," says Moblico CEO Barbeau. Moblico isn't disclosing any clients yet, but its founders say they're already working with Fortune 500 clients. "If a new campaign is being planned,
we'll come in and present the mobile opportunities and brainstorm through the different mobile options," says Styers, Moblico's president.
So far, their former employer, Sprint, isn't
among their clients, but Moblico is in discussions with the wireless operator on potential projects. After being named general manager of mobile advertising for Sprint last September, Styers left in
April amid a management shake-up aimed at streamlining operations. "It was not as conducive a place to build new products as it was before," he explains. "Resources were constrained all over to meet
financial parameters and I thought it was going to limit what we could or should be doing."
