Belo Appoints Exec To Head Divisions

As it preps to become a separate TV-only company, Belo has appointed two of its executives to roles in which they will oversee its 20 local stations.

Peter Diaz becomes executive vice president/television operations, with Kathy Clements taking the role of senior vice president/television operations.

Belo is preparing to split into two publicly traded companies--one comprised of its TV operations and the other its newspaper businesses, led by the Dallas Morning News.

The executives will report to Dunia Shive, set to become CEO of the $750 million TV side. Among its holdings are network affiliates in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

Diaz has been a corporate Belo executive for a year; he headed its Houston CBS affiliate since 1999. Similarly, Clements has headed the company's Dallas ABC station for eight years.

Shive said the executives "have delivered outstanding results for Belo, and I know they will continue to do so."
