For John Harthorne, going to work every day as a consultant for Boston-based global management consulting firm Bain & Co. literally made him sick. "I hated consulting," Harthorne, founder and CEO of startup accelerator program MassChallenge, told students at Boston University's TechConnect event on Feb. 7. Harthorne talked about the genesis of MassChallenge days before the accelerator kicked off its fourth annual program, which will give hundreds of startups the opportunity to compete for space at the program's new offices in south Boston.

Dunkin' Donuts Thursday confirmed it has canceled all its advertising on the sports radio station WEEI, and a station official admits the Canton chain was "upset" at a disparaging comment made by morning host Gerry Callahan, who was paid to endorse the company's products. WEEI wouldn't say what wording Callahan used about three weeks ago on the Dennis & Callahan Morning Show. A spokesman for the station's owner, Entercom Communications, said the incident involved an off-the-cuff remark about doughnuts that Dunkin' did not find amusing.

Wayfair LLC, the online home-goods retailer, has contacted banks about managing an initial public offering, people with knowledge of the matter said. The company, based in Boston, is scheduled to meet with several banks over the next few weeks about managing an IPO in the first half of the year, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. Wayfair, which sells furniture and lighting on the Web, posted revenue of about $1 billion last year, the person said, compared with $600 million in 2012.

Shares in TripAdvisor reached an all-time high on Wednesday, rising as high as $93.13 during the day and closing at $90.27. The surge came after the Newton, Mass.-based travel review and booking site beat revenue expectations in the fourth quarter and forecast strong financial results looking ahead.TripAdvisor said traffic in the fourth quarter rose 50 percent year-over-year, and that its sites drew more than 2 billion unique visitors in total in 2013.

Brightcove on Wednesday said it's now offering its video ad technology Once for Google Chromecast app developers. Chromecast, which sells for $35, is a device that can be plugged into an HDTV to stream video and music (using a mobile device or laptop as the controller).

Startup accelerator program MassChallenge on Wednesday opened applications for the 128 slots in its 2014 program - the program's fifth session and its first at a new location in South Boston. MassChallenge officials also announced that they expect to run an accelerator program in London for the first time in 2015. The program is expected to accept 60 to 100 startups in its inaugural year.

BoardProspects, a social networking site for current and prospective board members, launched out of beta with 3,100 members and plans to offer an online educational course in board governance, the company announced Tuesday. The Boston-based social networking site, which the company calls a "Match.com for board members" allows users to network with and search for prospective board members. The site is targeted at public, private and nonprofit corporations, and the website allows users to volunteer, apply for, or recruit candidates for boards of directors.
