Orkin App Lets Consumers In On Action

  • February 1, 2011
Orkin is letting consumers in on the fun of killing pests with its new free iPhone application and game, Bug Battle.

In the game, users can swat flies, pinch termites and squish cockroaches and ants. And, in a twist, users can upload photos of bothersome friends and family, making them swattable bests as well.

The Atlanta-based company has pledged a $10,000 donation to its Fight the Bite partnership with the United Nations to donate malaria-preventing Mosquito nets in Africa, if the app reached 50,000 downloads by the end of Feb.

"We tested Bug Battle with a small group of users and gamers," said Rob Crigler, vice president, global digital strategy and integrated marketing, Orkin, in a statement. "We knew we were on to something when one of our testers gave it to a group of teenagers over Christmas, and they played Bug Battle for almost an hour instead of their Xbox. I'm happy that something this entertaining will benefit a great cause."
