A 24/7 TV channel of nothing but revolving rotisserie chicken? That's a reality -- if you live in Canada.
Starting today, Canadians who subscribe to Rogers Television should take a gander at channel 208.
What you will see is not a test, but a 24/7 channel featuring nothing but gently turning chicken, suspended over a flickering flame. Is anyone else feeling bad for the Yule Log?
Swiss Chalet, a Canadian-based chicken company, is the brand behind the Rotisserie Channel. Viewers watching the chickens turn will occasionally see a promotional code and URL that directs watchers to Swiss Chalet's Facebook page, where varying coupons are available, from buy-one, get-one free offers, to a percentage off a meal. The promo changes daily, so chicken lovers will be basting in Swiss Chalet discounts. The Rotisserie Channel has an initial set run time of three months.
Rogers Cable has an estimated 2.25 million television customers; for Canadians who aren't Rogers Cable subscribers, they can take advantage of discounts by "liking" Swiss Chalet's Facebook page.
"We know Canadians have a passion for Swiss Chalet's famous Rotisserie chicken, so this branded channel gives us an opportunity to further satisfy their craving," said Mark Daprato, vice president of business development and marketing at Swiss Chalet. "Not only does this channel bring the sight of a delicious Rotisserie Chicken into their homes, it gives us a real opportunity to directly interact with our fans, offering some great deals, through Facebook and Swiss Chalet's website."
BBDO Toronto created the campaign and MEC Toronto handled the media buying, partnership and placement.
The campaign is an offshoot of Swiss Chalet's current TV ad, featuring an overzealous Swiss Chalet employee, looking to make the brand more famous than it already is. His idea, naturally, is a Rotisserie channel. Watch the TV spot here. A teaser campaign, promoting the Rotisserie Channel, can be seen here.
And I thought it was only March 1st and not April 1st.
