Bloomberg Goes 'West,' Challenges CNBC

Bloomberg TV will attempt to dispel any charges of an East Coast bias, while also trying to one-up CNBC. The network is debuting a show focusing on business news emanating from California, whether it's Hollywood or Silicon Valley.

"Bloomberg West" will air weekdays starting at 6 p.m., and the network indicated that investments flowing into and out of California will be the focal point, as will technology developments. The show will be streamed live on the Bloomberg TV Web site.

Bloomberg says its San Francisco bureau has 60-plus editors and reporters for its news service, and plans to cover beats that include Google and Twitter, as well as venture capital.

Jeff Taylor, Bloomberg TV's West Coast managing editor, stated that technology is increasingly of interest to the network's "core audience of business professionals" and is a "hugely important area for investors, entrepreneurs and tech consumers."

Emily Chang, one of the "Bloomberg West" hosts, was a correspondent for CNN. Her co-host, Cory Johnson, is a journalist, but was also a hedge-fund manager.
