Conrad To Head New Univision Sports Net

Moving ahead with plans to launch a Spanish-language sports cable network, Univision indicated that a former ESPN executive would serve in a top post at the venture.

Eric W. Conrad, with extensive experience in Hispanic sports operations, becomes vice president of programming of Univision Deportes, the name for the network expected to debut next year.

For now, he will work on Univision's sports properties, such as soccer programming, including games with the Mexican national team, and a run of Web sites, including one in partnership with the NFL. Conrad will report to Sandy Brown, who heads Univision sports and has worked at ESPN internationally and the NBA.

Conrad has been a senior programming executive working at ESPN Deportes, a competitor to a would-be Univision sports network. Part of his tenure involved programming, but it also included providing marketing opportunities for clients. Before that, he worked in Latin American/U.S. Hispanic sales and marketing for Major League Baseball.

Brown stated: "As our portfolio of sports offerings continues to grow and expand into new platforms, Eric's counsel and experience will be of significant value."
