Pacifico Sponsors Surfing Event

Pacifico is sponsoring the 2012 U.S. Open of Surfing this week for the third consecutive year.

The pilsner-style Mexican beer will provide free local transportation at the event, promoting responsible drinking.

The event, which is expected to draw more than 750,000 attendees, began July 28 and runs through Aug. 5. As the official beer of the event, and presenting sponsor of the Noseriding Invitational, Pacifico will continue to provide attendees with an assortment of opportunities to responsibly enjoy the week of festivities.

To encourage the responsible enjoyment of Pacifico, the brand will circulate 10 branded pedicabs and a shuttle bus from Aug. 2 through Aug. 5, offering free rides to those 21 and older who are seeking safe transit. Responsible USOS fans can catch a free ride to the pier by flagging down the specially marked pedicabs that will be cruising downtown Huntington Beach.

The Pacifico shuttle bus will also provide free rides from Newport Beach to Huntington Beach, making a continuous loop Aug. 2 to 5 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

"Much like the competitors and fans of the USOS, the Pacifico brand is rooted in a spirit of discovery and authenticity," said Jim Sabia, chief marketing offer at Crown Imports.

The brand has its roots in surf culture, after being introduced in the U.S. by American surfers who brought it back after exploring the waters off of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.

"The brand's West Coast authenticity and great flavor continues to make Pacifico a favorite for those sharing stories of great adventure with close friends,” Sabia said in a release. “In order to meet the demand of Pacifico fans across the U.S., we are increasing the brand's presence at events like the USOS and have expanded our draft offerings to hundreds of new markets across the U.S., putting Pacifico on tap in 37 states.”
