GoPro To Help ESPN With X Games

  • January 22, 2013

Extreme sports video camera maker GoPro is teaming with ESPN to help the sports network shoot and show the action of its X Games extreme sports property.

The three-year agreement came about because of GoPro’s unique ability (through helmet and equipment mounts common among extreme sportsters) to offer unprecedented angles, perspectives and points of view for the games.

"We are thrilled to be working with ESPN on X Games," said GoPro Vice President of Marketing, Paul Crandel, in a statement. "GoPro has become the best-selling camera in the world thanks to the passion and creativity of action sports athletes and fans across the world, so it feels fitting that, together with ESPN, we'll be opening up a new chapter of X Games. And what's more humbling is that ESPN, the premier Sports channel of all-time, is counting on our little cameras to push the boundaries of the content and viewing experience."

As part of the agreement, GoPro will headline major even activations (like title sponsor of the best snowmobile trick at the winter games) and produce its own content focusing on athlete stories and cultural narratives for the games.
