Disney/ABC App Downloaded 10 Million Times

ABC-App-Revenge-ADisney/ABC Television Group ABC Player app -- the first network to offer a mobile app -- has hit a download milestone.

The app has been downloaded 10 million times since its introduction for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Windows 8. It will soon launch on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD.

ABC says there have been 200 million episode "views" and over 1.31 billion ad impressions. The company says the ABC Player was the sixth-most-downloaded free iPad app of all time -- more than all other broadcast apps.

The ABC Player App was originally launched in conjunction with the iPad's debut in April 2010. ABC.com, which runs the ABC Player, was the first network Web site to offer full-length episodes online from May to June 2006.

The app gives users the ability to "save and recall" their playback position between iOS devices. Last year, with a new iPad launch, the app was optimized to support full retina display. A broad range of advertisers have run on the app, including Lexus, Toyota and Verizon, among others.

The site's player features geotargeting to display the logo for the local ABC affiliate in the player window, along with local ads. ABC also has episode player applications for multiple platforms, including iOS, Android and Windows.
