PLAs Taking 80% Of Search Results Page

Google product listing ads (PLAs) continue to take more space on the search engine results page (SERP). Larry Kim calls them "commercial intent-sucking monsters" that "steal conversions from both the organic and paid search results." A screen shot demonstrates his point. While PLAs make it easy for consumers to convert and make a purchase, many consumers are likely to be in the research phase and want to see more than one option or have less commercial intent, as Kim puts it. He believes it's Google's way of creating an engine where brands must use AdWords to compete in search, rather than organic listings, and explains why. Read the article here.
