TiVo's Second-Screen Service Sees Strong Results

LAS VEGAS -- TiVo says its new streaming service, which allows content from its DVR units to be seen on mobile devices, has seen strong usage among consumers -- with the average number of streaming sessions up 50% in the second half of 2013 and the time spent on streaming session 20% higher on a per-user monthly basis.

Some 78% of TiVo's streaming-capable TiVo subscribers use the service each month, with time-shifted content accounting for 76% of all streaming sessions.

Much of TiVo's recent higher usage numbers are the result of the launch of its TiVo Roamio service, which started up in August 2013. TiVo has had in-home streaming capability since September 2012.

TiVo says 80% TiVo streaming sessions were viewed on tablets, with 20% coming from smartphones.
